King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) is the largest privately-funded new city in the world. Situated on the west coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, KAEC covers an area of 181 million square meters of land, approximately the size of Washington DC. The city is under development by Emaar, The Economic City (EEC), a publicly listed Saudi joint-stock company. EEC was established in 2006 by a consortium of global real estate players, including Emaar PJSC, a number of high-profile Saudi investors, and government bodies to develop King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). The vision for KAEC is to develop a world-class, integrated lifestyle city that adds to the socio-economic prosperity and sustainability of Saudi Arabia.
When completed KAEC is estimated to be home to approximately 2 million residents, and aid the Saudi Arabian economy in creating employment and expanding beyond oil into the shipping, light industries, tourism, retail and commercial sectors. KAEC is located approximately 100 kilometers north of Jeddah— a location at the crossroads between East and West, on the coast of the Red Sea, and less than an hour by rail from Mecca, Medina and Jeddah.
